KELBROOK Primary School children, parents and staff are getting active and keeping cars at a distance in favour of a new "walking bus" scheme.
Launched for healthy lifestyle, traffic safety awareness and road congestion reasons, the trial day sponsored by the Barnoldswick Co-operative store proved a big hit with pupils and it is now hoped will become a regular thing.

Headteacher Mrs Katherine Morris said: "The Co-op provided the walking jackets and plastic banner, and 29 children, staff and parents did the walk as part of the school's morning travel plan.

"There were three pick-up points at Earby, Sough and Kelbrook Village Hall and it took 25 minutes from start to finish. I'll be sending out a questionnaire to parents to see who wants to do it on a more regular basis, but the plan is to do the full walk at least once a term, if not more.

"We would like to keep a more regular point at the village hall and walk them the last five minutes as we have a problem with parents parking and the access road up to school. The layby by the roundabout is a really dangerous point and we're constantly flagging it up in our newsletters."
