A hymn for Earby
EXCITEMENT is building at St Peter's Methodist Church, Earby, over the world premier of a new hymn – "Earby".
It has been written by Jonathan Blamire, who moved to Georgetown, South Carolina, last November, after 12 years in Earby, to become the director of music and organist at Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church.
Mr Blamire said he had been sitting in his office looking out on the blue sky when he he got the inspiration for the stirring new Easter hymn of praise which took him less than one hour to complete, both tune and words.
The idea for the title was generated by pictures of Earby and friends from the churches back in England displayed on his digital photograph frame.
"A quick search of the internet didn't turn up any other tunes of the same name, although I would be interested to hear if anyone knows different," said Mr Blamire.
The new hymn wil be sung for the very first time on Sunday at St Peter's Church at the 10-45 a.m. service. This will be led by Mr Blamire's wife, Sarah.
She stayed in Earby while a buyer was sought for their Skipton Road home, but plans to join her husband, with their children, once they have completed their school exams in July.
