BARNOLDSWICK'S Town Crier Liz Mowe beat off stiff competition from 44 other criers to win the European Championship Cup - the first woman ever to win.
The contest took place in the Netherlands and Liz had to perform three cries over two days.

Her victory was widely reported in the Netherlands, with national newspaper, TV and radio coverage, and Liz hopes winning the European Championship will provide an excellent springboard for the town's own contest, which takes place a week on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The two trophies and glass plaque she won will be on display on the day. Liz gets to keep the plaque, but has to hand the trophies back next year.

Coun. David Whipp said: "Liz should be the toast of the town, she's done Barnoldswick proud."
