THE 1940s were recreated in a trip down memory lane at Rolls-Royce Leisure Centre, Barnoldswick.

BE Bosom Friends cancer support group organised the Forties Day event which raised £1,114.

Vintage vehicles helped set the scene outside the centre, Army vehicles lined up alongside an old Silentnight "Otter" van and family cars, while Friends of the WR28 Home Guard from Haworth put on a display.

Inside there was a display of wartime memorabilia, loaned by locals, together with dance workshops to the sounds of the 1940s played by DJ - "Company B".

Most visitors got into the swing of things by dressing up in fashions of the day - hats and fox furs worn by the women and snappy suits, trilbies or uniforms by the men. Prizes were awarded to the best dressed "evacuees" and adult visitors and food took the form of wartime rations.

Highlight of the afternoon for many was the flypast of the Dakota - the wartime plane flying low so everyone could get a close look.
