DECISION day for Barnoldswick's new supermarket application has been pencilled in for next month.
A special meeting of Pendle Council's West Craven Committee has been scheduled for May 13th where councillors will decide on the new development planned for Butts Mill.

This will follow a special meeting in Colne the night before when competing plans put forward by Tesco and Sainsbury will come under the spotlight.

Speaking at the recent public consultation day, a spokesman for Maple Grove Development said the outcome of the Colne application should have no bearing on the Barnoldswick decision.

But reports put before councillors are expected to take into consideration the impact three new supermarkets would have on the area.

Opponents of the new supermarket plan outnumbered supporters by over three to one in the recent Barnoldswick Town Council parish poll. In the five hours the polling stations were open, 395 turned out to make their mark.

Of those, 301 were opposed to a supermarket being built on the Butts Mill site and 91 in favour. One ballot paper was rejected. The number of votes cast reflected a 4.86% turn-out.
