Earby motorists hit out at parking 'farce'
ONE hour parking restrictions in Albion Road, Earby, are a nightmare for residents, according to one local who took her complaint to Pendle Council's West Craven Committee.
Christine Mitchell said since the signs went up, residents were forced to get up early on weekday mornings to move their cars or face a fine.
She questioned why restrictions had been introduced in Albion Road given there didn't appear to be them anywhere else. "The restrictions are a particular problem for anyone with children as you take them home and then have to put the kids back in the car again an hour later to move it. It is a real farce and I just don't understand why these restrictions are in place at all."
Coun. Chris Tennant said he had been contacted by other residents on the short terrace. "Basically Albion Road is a residential street with little traffic coming in from the main road," he said.
He sought the committee's backing for the removal of the parking restrictions, but Coun. David Whipp reminded him these were the county council's responsibility and complaints should be directed there first.
The committee was told the order dated back several years, but had only been implemented once the county council took over.
Coun. Tennant agreed to ask county council staff to consider removing the restrictions and press for a residents' parking scheme.
"We have had a similar situation with parking problems in Stoney Bank Road since restrictions were introduced in Bailey Street," he said.
