A NIGHT in a semi-derelict theatre made for a spooky night out for ghost hunters Angela Wilson and her partner Stuart Rowley.
The Barnoldswick pair were taking part in a ghost hunt at Morecambe's Winter Gardens overnight Friday/Saturday to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Liz's cousin Liz Davies has a five-year-old daughter, Bethan, who suffers from that complaint and Liz and her husband Marc shared in the ghostly experience.
Built in 1897, the Morecambe theatre is said to be one of the most haunted venues in the country. Restoration work is underway to try to restore its former glory.
"There were about 40 people taking part altogether and we were split into four groups," said Angela, of Park Street. "They took us on a tour of the theatre, telling us where it was safe to go and where not. The whole place was in complete darkness, but we were given torches to see."
Angela admits she was sceptical beforehand, but a meeting with a medium from North West Spirit Seekers soon changed that.
"He said he made contact with an elderly man and went on to describe my grandad perfectly. He knew family names and details which he could never have guessed at. My hair was stood up on my neck when he finished talking to us," said Angela.
Strange lights and unexplained bangs were seen and heard during the night, which involved table-tapping, glass moving and other ghost-busting techniques.
"It was really good and something I have always wanted to do," said Angela, who can't wait to have another go.
The event raised more than £3,000 in sponsorship for the charity and Angela and Stuart's efforts were helped with a £50 boost from their employers, Silentnight Beds.
