Silentnight job losses - latest

REDUNDANCIES have been kept to a minimum at Silentnight Beds as night shift workers are successfully incorporated onto daytime shifts.
The Barnoldswick bed company warned early last month that it was going to have to reduce capacity at the plant due to a slowdown in orders.

Short-time working was proposed and the movement of several night shift assembly teams onto double-day shifts.

"The transfer from nights to double days went smoothly and everyone transferred stayed with the company," said a spokesman.

"Unfortunately five warehouse employees were made redundant as we no longer required an extra belt team on days.

"These have been the only redundancies and currently we are hopeful that is all we shall need."
