A BARNOLDSWICK soldier is spending five weeks in the jungles of Central America, learning how to survive and fight in a hot, humid and unforgiving environment.
Kingsman Lee Stockdale is the son of Dawn Robinson and worked as a slaughterman and a stage builder before joining the Army 18 months ago, training with the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment as a machine gunner.

"Belize is awesome," he said, "It's not like anything I've done before, but it is freaky, with all the spiders and things."

Kgn Stockdale said it was the job security and money that attracted him to the Army.

"I finished my training about a month before the battalion came back from Iraq in June 2007 and we are now converting to a light role battalion, so Belize gives us a good opportunity to train for that," he said."

Lieut. Col. Mark Kenyon, Commanding Officer 2 LANCS, said the training operation was in preparation for the battalion's deployment to Cyprus this summer, with a possible tour of Afghanistan following.
