Teen drinks den gets blown away

PROBLEMS with a derelict Earby garage regularly used as a teenage smoking and drinking den have been resolved thanks to high winds blowing down the semi-derelect structure.
The site was one of those flagged up as a potential hotspot by the Police and Community Together scheme.

And West Craven Community Safety Working Group was looking into the ownership to try to get it removed when high winds literally blew the problem away!

Burglaries on sheds and garages had been another problem highlighted earlier, but members were told that following an increase in regular patrols, this was no longer an issue.

The same could not be said of anti-social behaviour however, and while the group welcomed interim ASBOs placed on two of Earby's most prolific troublemakers, there was concern problems could increase now the light nights were here.

All agreed the Waterfalls area, Cemetery Road play area, Anne's Wood and Sough Park were potential hotspots and patrols are to be stepped up there in the coming months along with regular checks carried out on the old railway line at Sough where trees have been chopped down for campfires.

Pendle Council is also to be asked to consider the possibility of introducing a ban on overnight stays, which would help police move on any troublemakers camping out at the Waterfalls in particular.
