TELEVISION viewers in West Craven have been thrown into confusion by letters advising them of the switch to digital television, it was claimed this week.
Letters have been sent to people living in Lancashire as the turn-off of the analogue signal to their homes in November draws nearer.

But most people in West Craven receive pictures through transmitters in Yorkshire, which are not due to switch until 2011.

And the message from local retailer Harry Garlick was ... don't panic!

Director Ian Scothern said: "The BBC is to be thanked for sending information explaining timings of the digital switchover and options available for upgrade. I understand the difficulty they had faced in those areas where viewers were on the border of a region and it perhaps wasn't clear to them which transmitter a viewer was receiving.

"The digital switchover, as well as being daunting for some residents, has also been a testing time for any electrical retailer.

"Since the letters have gone out, the phone inquiries regarding switchover have trebled but given us the chance to explain fully, in simple terms, the impact of digital, and what it entails, and the timing of switchover.

"For the last six months we have already been contacting many of our customers to prempt any panic. Dealing with the switchover gradually is how we will cope with the extra demand for our time and products."
