Grandfather-of-four Mr Michael Peter Wilson (61) died following an accident at his home in North Wales earlier this month.

His son, Andrew, paid tribute to "a quiet man who loved the outdoors and had many friends".

Born in Burnley, Mr Wilson spent his early years in Pritchard Street, Rosehill. An ex-pupil at Burnley Grammar School, he qualified as a master butcher, following in the footsteps of his brother and grandfather, and worked at the former Lord's Butchers. He also worked at Mullards and Michelin and in the 1960s had a brief spell as a police officer.

Over the years, Mr Wilson lived in various areas of Burnley, including Cliviger, with wife Sharon, who died in 2000.

After his wife's death Mr Wilson relocated to Anglesey in North Wales, where the family had enjoyed holidays. "I think he felt a connection with the place," said Andrew (42), one of Mr Wilson's three sons.

He also leaves Andrew's identical twin Simon, who lives in France, and youngest son Jamie (39).

Andrew said his father was happiest on his motorbike, walking his dog in the countryside or spending time with his family. "He was quite a shy man, but he was popular, he left a lot of friends in Burnley."

Mr Wilson's funeral takes place at Bangor Crematorium in North Wales on Friday, at 1-30 p.m. and his family are planning a celebration of his life for the same day. Anyone who knew Mr Wilson is invited to attend. Funeral details are available from Andrew on 861668 or Jamie on 450145.
