This rescued steel grey gelding pony is now being looked after by the Horse And Pony Protection Association in Briercliffe where staff have appealed for readers of the Burnley Express to give him a name.

RSPCA inspectors found the 10 hands pony in a tiny field in West Yorkshire, fenced off by razor wire, with no grass or food to eat.

HAPPA administrator Julie Rickwood-Gan said: "He is actually in quite a good condition and has kept his weight well. As he was found abandoned and the RSPCA hasn't been able to trace the owners, he is without a name.

"We thought it would be nice for the readers to have a chance of naming him. At some time he had a head collar on that was too tight which was scarring his nose and head. He is now safe and sound, and settling into his new home at Shores Hey Rescue Centre being cared for by our dedicated staff."
