PLAYERS and staff from Burnley Football Club could be vital witnesses to an attempted murder after being at the scene of an horrific incident while on tour in Scotland.
A 32-year-old woman, who is four months pregnant, was subjected to a terrifying attack on Tuesday while walking in the Gorbals, when she was deliberately hit by a Nissan Note car – right in front of the Clarets' team coach.

Owen Coyle's squad had been training at Glasgow Green on Tuesday morning fresh from a 1-0 victory over Irn-Bru Scottish League First Division team Partick Thistle the previous evening.

The team got more than they bargained for after stopping for refreshments at a supermarket around 1 p.m. on the way back to the hotel.

A spokesman, who witnessed the incident, said: "The bus had stopped to let the lads get some refreshments. The next thing I saw was a woman being hurled into the air before a group of people started chasing a car. Everyone ran to the victim's aid to make sure she was alright."

He added: "Most of the players and staff were in the shop at the time but we will be more than happy to speak to the police and help them with their inquiries as and when they get in touch with us."

The victim, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to Glasgow's Victoria Infirmary but was later released.

Strathclyde police are appealing for information following the hit-and-run incident and are currently hunting the man responsible. DC Natalie Carr said: "Inquiries are ongoing to trace the driver of the car."
