A HOUSE once owned by a well-known Burnley family has been torched for a third time in recent years.
.
Firefighters from Burnley, Nelson and Accrington struggled for four hours to fight the blaze at the now unoccupied Swiss Cottage in Colne Road, Reedley, opposite the Oaks Hotel.

The property, once owned by Burnley car dealers the Skipper family, was set alight at 4-50 p.m. yesterday, but firefighters were still "damping down" later in the evening.

Station manager Dave Jackson said: "When we arrived the property was well alight and starting to affect the roof. We had to use an aerial ladder platform from Accrington to fight this as well as two appliances from Nelson and one from Burnley.

"The fire spread throughout the property and caused severe damage all over and destroyed the roof. After investigations it is now being treated as suspicious."

The house is believed to be in private ownership and has been boarded up for some time.
