BURNLEY eased into the third round of the Carling Cup with a convincing win over League 1 leaders Oldham.
Owen Coyle named the same side which started on Saturday at Crystal Palace, with a place on the bench for new loan signing Russell Anderson.

3 mins - Martin Paterson pokes the ball just wide of the post after driving inside and out from Kevin McDonald's superb slide rule pass, following a neat exchange with Wade Elliott on halfway.

8 mins - Chris McCann drills a first-time shot over after Christian Kalvenes cushions Graham Alexander's sweeping pass.

12 mins - GOAL! Burnley 1, Oldham Athletic 0.
Clarke Carlisle squares for Steven Caldwell, who drills a pass into Chris Eagles to spin and play a delightful ball in behind the full back for Elliott to scamper onto, and McCann, despite leaning backwards, manages to guide his header inside the far post from the cross.

15 mins - As Burnley continue to dominate, Elliott sees a fierce shot from a tight angle beaten away, with McDonald firing the loose ball over the top.

16 mins - Oldham have their first sight of goal as Chris O'Grady drills a shot wide of the near post after holding off Carlisle.

21 mins - O'Grady is wide of the mark again after a lucky break in a challenge with Kalvenes.

26 mins - Elliott is booked for a foul on Kelvin Lomax, seconds after a similar offence from O'Grady on McDonald goes unpunished.

36 mins - McCann shoots wide after an incisive one-two with Paterson.

Half-time - Burnley 1, Oldham Athletic 0.

57 mins - Double substitution for Burnley, Robbie Blake and Joey Gudjonsson replace Michael Duff and McDonald, with Alexander reverting to right back.

63 mins - GOAL! Burnley 2, Oldham Athletic 0. Eagles weaves his way through the centre of the defence, and his deflected shot is parried to Paterson, who turns home the loose ball.

67 mins - Triple substitution for Oldham, with Lee Hughes, Kieran Lee and Lewis Allesandra on for O'Grady, Kevin Maher and Deane Smalley.
Hughes is instantly in the action, seeing a hooked effort kept out at the near post by Brian Jensen.

80 mins - GOAL! Burnley seal their passage into the third round. Paterson takes Jensen's huge goal kick down, and after a lucky break off Gudjonsson, cuts inside and drills home the third. Alan Mahon replaces McCann from the restart.

84 mins - A hopeful forward pass beats Caldwell, and Hughes latches onto it, with Jensen making a smart stop.
