STEVE Jones' solitary strikes gave the second string Clarets all three points last night.
At a bitterly cold Fraser Eagle Stadium, Burnley had eight full-time professional on show, including Ritchie Jones, who was on trial from Manchester United.

Brian Jensen's failute to collect a ball gave the visitors the first opportunity only for the ball to be hacked to safety, while Chester keeper Phil Palethorpe did well to gather Garreth O'Connor's effort.

Chester then hit the crossbar just before the break, while Jones got down the left before placing his shot just wide.

But Jones atoned for that miss just after the restart, collcecting Steve Caldwell's pass mfrom a corner before watching the ball drop over the line off the bar.

The former Crewe strike then came close to doubling the lead and his tally for the night, collecting a pass from Alan Mahon before going around the keeper, only to slice wide of the target.

Jones wasted another two chances at the death, but his earlier goal was enough to earn the Clarets all three points.

Burnley: Jensen, Stott (McDonald 45), Duff, Caldwell (Lynch 66), Jordan, G. O'Connor, Randall, Spicer, R. Jones, Mahon (Fletcher 66), S. Jones. Subs not used: Ritchie, Kay.
