BURNLEY have announced a sixth pre-season friendly with old friends Glentoran.

The Clarets will travel to Belfast on Thursday, July 31st (kick-off time to be confirmed) at The Oval.

The strong connections between Burnley and Glentoran were firmly established in the very early history of the two clubs.

Both football clubs were founded in 1882, recently celebrating their 125th anniversary, and this friendly is seen as an ideal way to commemorate the milestone.

Manager Owen Coyle said:"With Glentoran also recently celebrating their 125th anniversary, it is a momentous time for both clubs, and I think it's a fantastic and appropriate way to mark such an occasion.

"We look forward to meeting the people of Glentoran."

Famous names to represent both clubs include Burnley legend Jimmy McIlroy, who graced Turf Moor for 12 years after arriving from Glentoran for £8,000 in March 1950, and defender Alex Elder, who made over 300 appearances for the Clarets after signing in 1959.

Winger Glen Little, now at Reading, gained cult status at the Irish Premier League club, before crossing the water to link up with Burnley when he joined in November 1996.

The 32 year-old was a key player during his eight years at Turf Moor, and will be forever remembered for his goal at Scunthorpe which clinched promotion to the Championship in 2000.
