BURNLEY earned a place in the second round of the Carling Cup, courtesy of a brace from Martin Paterson.
Boss Owen Coyle made three changes to his side to face Bury in the Carling Cup first round.
Coyle replaced Diego Penny, Michael Duff and Remco van der Schaaf with Brian Jensen, Christian Kalvenes and Joey Gudjonsson as he looks to bounce back from the 4-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Big Ben Futcher, nephew of former Clarets striker Ron, headed high and wide from Brian Barry-Murphy's corner shortly after, following a dangerous break from left back David Buchanan.
And Bury carved out a glorious opportunity when Andy Bishop fed strike partner Glynn Hurst, who turned the ball on for Stephen Dawson, and, fortunately for the Clarets, Dawson fired straight at Brian Jensen, when he had time to bring the ball down and pick his spot.
In an entertaining opening, Joey Gudjonsson then sent a free kick whistling past the post from 30 yards, before Jensen was again made to work, tipping over Elliott Bennett's piledriver.
Burnley almost snatched the lead in fortuitous circumstances when Martin Paterson hit the face of the bar on 18 minutes after the best move of the game, linking well with Eagles and Elliott.
And Paterson and Eagles combined again midway through the half, Eagles sending the diminutive striker down the right, before slamming his return ball wide.
With Burnley starting to dominate possession and territory, they almost created a goal out of nothing on the half hour when Paterson forced a rushed clearance from keeper Wayne Brown, and Robbie Blake's audacious 50-yarder sailed over the top.
Blake went close 10 minutes before the break with a left-footed daisy cutter that flew inches wide, but Bury responded, when Jones' strike took a deflection and almost looped beyond Jensen, after a careless pass from Graham Alexander.
The goal was coming, and arrived five minutes from half-time when Paterson held the ball up under pressure, and play was swept out by Elliott to Eagles on the left, who slipped a pass down the line for Kalvenes, whose superb deep cross was steered home at the far post by Paterson.
Blake thought he had a second moments later, after Chris McCann's shot fell at his feet, but despite a tidy finish, the off-side flag was raised.
Bury reacted well, and from Dawson's raking pass, Futcher headed over, when he should really have got over the ball and got his effort on target.
Dawson had the first chance of the second half, picking up the ball and sending a left-footer just wide, as conditions worsened in driving rain.
Burnley were soon back in their attacking stride, however, and Bury's defending got more and more desperate as the Clarets stretched the home side with pin-point passing and movement.
Bury still presented a threat, and Steven Caldwell had to win a vital header from Jones' cross, with Bennett's shot from the loose ball held by Jensen in slippery conditions.
Jensen came to Burnley's aid with the save of the night, blocking a tame effort from Bishop, before producing a stunning reaction stop from close range from Bennett's follow-up.
It looked a certain goal, but Jensen stayed big and showed great agility to deny the youngster.
As the Clarets looked for a decisive second goal, Futcher was booked after hauling back Eagles, who continued and laid the ball out to Elliott, whose shot was deflected wide for a corner.
Eagles went close with a dipping 30 yarder after quick feet and a lovely pass from substitute Alan Mahon, as the Clarets looked to avoid a nervy last 10 minutes.
Michael Duff was introduced with eight minutes remaining, at the expense of Kalvenes, while Burnley-born Richie Baker came on for Dawson, and two minutes later, Kevin McDonald made his Clarets bow, replacing Gudjonsson.
Caldwell was close to heading home a Mahon free kick as a second goal proved elusive, but Paterson wrapped up the win with a tap-in after Eagles latched onto a poor goal kick from Brown, and saw his shot parried to the former Scunthorpe man.
