CLARETS boss Owen Coyle will try and convince Andrew Cole his future lies at Burnley after his release from Sunderland.

The striker ended the season on loan at Turf Moor, scoring six goals in 13 appearances, but, on his return to the Stadium of Light, the 36-year-old has been told by Black Cats boss Roy Keane he will not receive a new contract offer.

Cole joined Sunderland on a one-year deal last summer from Portsmouth, and Coyle has already spoken of his desire to convince him to play on at Burnley, saying on Tuesday: "Andrew goes back to Sunderland, and if they decide not to offer him anything, then obviously we will have a chat."

Keane has also released Stanislav Varga, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Burnley, along with Ian Harte and Stephen Wright.

Keane said: "I have sat down with Andy, Ian, Stephen and Stan and they won't be getting new contracts."
