Coyle praises 'poacher' Paterson

A PROLIFIC striker in his time, Owen Coyle enjoyed poacher Martin Paterson's brace in the Carling Cup against Oldham.
As the £1m. man took his goal haul to five in five games for the club, Coyle hailed the former Scunthorpe youngster a "natural goalscorer".
Paterson added to his double blast which knocked Bury out in round one and Coyle said: "Let's hope Martin loves the league as much as the he loves the cup, because he has shown he is a natural goalscorer who will get his share of goals.
"Personally, I love the goals he is scoring, because they are real striker's goals.
"And he was unlucky in the first half when he put one just by the post.
"Sometimes it can be a thankless task for him, and you might feel isolated, but for him to go and get two more goals on the night will give him a terrific lift.
"He is showing why we brought him to the football club, and with the age he is at, he is going to serve this club for years to come, and there's no doubt he will score goals."
And he felt Burnley were well worth their 3-0 victory: "We started reasonably well and had a couple of opportunities to score, and when the goal did arrive, there's no doubting the quality of it; the passing and the movement within it, and it's a great finish by Chris McCann.
"We had opportunities to add to our lead in the first half, and Brian didn't have a save to make in the first half.
"We felt if we continued to pass and move the ball, we would create more openings, and so it proved.
"It was always going to be a tricky tie – Oldham are absolutely flying at the top of their division and have won every game they've entered into this season, and you could see there was a confidence within them.
"But I think we merited the victory on the night.
"We scored three very good goals and could have had a few more, I'm delighted young Paterson was among the goals again, and Chris Eagles showed with one or two runs what he can bring to the football club. All in all it's a pleasing night's work."
Coyle was also happy with the way the 4-3-3 system worked, earning a second successive clean sheet, while looking dangerous going forward: "I was pleased with the tempo, but I think we can be better, there's no doubt about that.
"We're trying to be attractive, I think probably last year, and at the beginning of this season, we have been gung ho and attack-minded, and when you change things about with systems or whatever, and you're not seen to be as attack-minded.
"But we were tonight, we passed and moved at the right time, and there will be mis-placed passes, but we're trying to play with wide players, attacking players, with pace.
"There was a lot to be pleased about, although, equally there is other stuff to work on and get better at.
"We're not getting carried away."
