CLARETS boss Owen Coyle has released midfielder John Spicer and put keeper Gabor Kiraly on the transfer list.

But he has offered new contracts to out-of-contract quintet Brian Jensen, David Unsworth, James O'Connor, Jon Harley and Jay Rodriguez.

Danish keeper Jensen, Irish midfielder O'Connor and former England Under 21 left back Harley are all considering new deals, along with veteran defender David Unsworth, who has been offered a one-year contract as a player-coach, with a remit to develop the club's younger players.

Burnley-born striker Rodriguez, 18, who has been on loan with Scottish First Division club Stirling Albion since January, has been offered a two-year contract, joining fellow teenagers Adam Kay and Alex MacDonald, who have both been offered first year professional terms.

And while Stan Varga, Andrew Cole and Mark Randall's loans have all expired, Coyle will also pay close attention to Cole's situation at Sunderland, should Roy Keane decide against offering the 36-year-old fresh terms.

Coyle said: "I have spoken to all the players individually, and having spoken to Brian (Jensen), James (O'Connor) and Jon (Harley), we have offered them deals.

"They have obviously got other interests though, so we await their replies.

"David (Unsworth) has been offered a one-year coaching deal as I feel he has a lot to offer this football club.

"His ability will be welcome on the coaching side of things, with regard to developing our young players, which is the way ahead.

"Within that, we would still retain his playing registration and again, we now await David's reply."

Coyle has already spoken of his desire to convince Cole to return, after netting six goals since January, and added: "Andrew goes back to Sunderland, and if they decide not to offer him anything, then obviously we will have a chat."

Spicer leaves after a three-year stay, after arriving from Bournemouth, making 74 appearances, although only 31 starts, and Coyle said: "John has left the club and we wish him all the very best.

"Unfortunately he was injured when I arrived, and then picked up a suspension.

"He's been unable to force his way into the side, but he goes with our best wishes because he has been a fantastic professional."

The club will also look at offers for Hungarian international Kiraly, who has a year of his contract to run, after moving to Turf Moor last summer on a free transfer following three years with Crystal Palace.

The 31 year-old has since battled it out with Jensen, making 27 league starts, and Coyle said: "With Gabor Kiraly, although he is under contract, I am going to be bringing a goalkeeper in, and if someone comes in for him, I will not be difficult to deal with."
