FOUR Clarets were on international duty this week – with one on target for his country.
Kevin McDonald netted in Scotland Under 21s' 3-0 win in Lithuania, to leave Billy Stark's side second in their Euro 2009 qualifying group with two games remaining.
The 10 group winners and four best group runners-up advance to the play-offs.
Meanwhile, at Hampden Park, Martin Paterson and Michael Duff lined up for Northern Ireland against Graham Alexander's Scotland in a goal-less draw.
Alexander helped earn a clean sheet, completing the full 90 minutes on his 34th appearance for Scotland, while Paterson, picking up his third cap, earned his first start, played the first half alongside David Healy, before being replaced by Hibs' Dean Shiels at half-time.
Duff ticked another box after his comeback from a serious knee injury, winning his 21st cap as a 75th-minute substitute for Ipswich skipper Gareth McAuley, and first since September 2007.
And Burnley boss Owen Coyle was thrilled for the former Cheltenham man: "When anybody's had any sort of career threatening injury, first and foremost they'll take an order to get themselves so that they're able to come back and play, and having done that, then they push to start getting back to the level they played at in terms of their own team.
"And then, having been an international player, they obviously want to be back involved in that arena.
"I think it's all credit to him that he's been through each step, and it's important now that we at Burnley Football Club see Michael Duff back to his very best.
"He was the North West Championship player of the year before he got injured, so it would be nice to get him back to that sort of form and playing his part for the football club."
