Four minutes from the break, the £1.3m man showed his pace to latch onto a weighted pass from Joey Gudjonsson, round the keeper and slot home with a superb left-foot finish into the far corner.

It ended a flowing Burnley move in style, after Robbie Blake played Christian Kalvenes out into space, and from his pass inside, Gudjonsson's first-time ball provided the chance.

However, his strike was not enough to secure victory in Burnley's first pre-season game on British soil, as tired legs after the American mini-tour took their toll, and Queens earned a draw seven minutes from time when a Stephen Dobbie corner fizzed through to back post, and Stewart Kean headed home.

Queens had the better of the early openings as, from a Jamie McQuilken corner, the unmarked Craig Barr headed straight at Brian Jensen.

And, moments later, Clarke Carlisle's loose pass enabled triallist Gary Arbuckle to run at goal, but Jensen was out smartly to smother.

The Clarets began to get the ball down and display some nice pass and move football, and Kevin McDonald was released by a superb reverse ball from Graham Alexander, but the cross was too deep, before Blake and Kalvenes almost crafted a clear opening, but the Norwegian strayed off-side.

On the half hour, Jensen made a superb reaction save to beat away a falling volley from Barr from Bob Harris' centre.

The big Dane was called upon again to save at the near post from a Neil MacFarlane flick following a McQuilken cross.

At the other end, Paterson spun inside and shot wide from an Elliott pass after Blake created space with a clever run, before his wonderfully-taken opener.

After the break, from Gudjonsson's raking crossfield pass and Blake's lay-off, Chris McCann fired over the top.

Jensen shone again when a Harris pass beat both centre backs, and Arbuckle went clear, but shot at the Beast, who stayed big.

After the hour, Paterson slid in and fired over Elliott's cross, and that was his last involvement as he was replaced by Ade Akinbiyi seconds later, with Stephen Jordan, Alan Mahon and Michael Duff also coming on for Kalvenes, McDonald and Alexander.

For the last 20 minutes, Alex MacDonald, Jay Rodriguez and Besart Berisha came on for Elliott, Blake and Gudjonsson, as Burnley switched to 4-4-2.

But despite the fresh legs, Queens found a way through to salvage a draw.

It was a blow on a day of positives, watched by 720 travelling Clarets, and Owen Coyle's side now turn their attentions to Partick Thistle on Monday night.
