Buyers from the biggest businesses across France and Germany have been putting in calls to a Lancashire firm to source their uniforms.
Whilst expanding throughout Europe, Altham-based corporate wear and uniform specialists Simon Jersey has taken the decision to house its call centre on its own premises – and the decision is proving lucrative after sales figures have rocketed.

Previously, Simon Jersey had employed sister companies to handle enquiries from abroad, but now French and German speakers have been recruited locally to carry out the work from their Lancashire based head office.

The German call centre was brought in house earlier this year and has already proved a big hit with customers due to improved levels of customers service, whilst the French team – which was brought in house a couple of years ago - has recorded its best-ever figures, doubling turnover since it began.

Team leader Astrid Dando said: "The decision to operate our own call centre has given us the ideal balance. We are perfectly placed to answer all manner of questions, from fashion advice to stock availability queries, and we also understand the way each different country operates its business.

"For example, German businesses are very precise. It is important to be punctual with deliveries and to supply exactly what was promised, above all else. These things are critical in maintaining good relationships."

The German team is headed up by Kerstin Marweld, who originates from Germany, and Lucie Godard, who also speaks French. The key French speaker is Eloise Lambert.

Due to its success, Simon Jersey is currently looking to recruit more French and German speakers to add to the team.

Astrid added: "It is a multilingual, multidiscipline role – and it is never dull! We have built a good rapport with our key contacts abroad. It's essential, because we don't have any representatives in those countries and we are their first point of contact."

Chris Claydon-Butler, managing director of Simon Jersey, said: "The results so far are very pleasing, leaving us a lot of potential for growth, too. There is a lot of scope for us in Europe, especially France and Germany, and to make such a positive start at connecting with these markets is fantastic."

Simon Jersey has been growing in strength since it was acquired by the Kwintet group, which is Europe's undisputed market leader for work clothing with a turnover of €725 million.

Anybody interested in joining the team should send their CV and a covering letter to Anne Yarker, HR Manager, Simon Jersey, Syke Side Drive, Altham, Accrington, Lancashire, BB5 5YE.
