POLICE are warning people to be on their guard following an increase in lead thefts.
Three people from Skipton were arrested in Higgin Street, Colne, on Saturday, accused of using a flat-back vehicle to steal scrap from back gardens.

A 15-year-old boy admitted the crime and was reprimanded, yet two adults escaped without charge.

Sgt Andy Cartwright said Pendle particularly is currently suffering from lead thefts, and urged people to ring police with any suspicions.

He said: "If members of the public see people, particularly with flat back trucks, down alleys or up on a roof, I'd ask them to call the police to check it out, even if it turns out to be nothing."

Call 999 if the situation is immediate, otherwise give information to police on 425001 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
