COUNCILLORS have given the go ahead for one of Pendle's largest employers to extend its works - and create nearly 160 new jobs.

Members of Pendle Council's Nelson Committee gave the thumbs up to Morrisons Supermarkets' plans for a meat processing and packing unit at its premises on the Nelson-Colne boundary.

The 2.2 hectare site, currently used as a trailer park and with a skins shed, cold store, tray wash buildings and the former North Valley Forge premises, will be cleared and replaced with a new meat processing building and offices, councillors heard in a report.

Morrisons has had to adjust the route of a concealed watercourse on the site to obtain planning permission and has also agreed to help finance a cycleway and sustainable transport plans as part of the planning agreement.
