THE parents of an inspirational boy who overcame meningitis are organising a dinner dance to add money to the charity coffers they've been topping up all year.
Although William Baldwin (4) has astounded doctors in his recovery and has been able to start at a mainstream school this year, parents Chris and Jackie, of Bent Lane, Colne, feel compelled to continue raising funds for the Meningitis Trust.
The couple have been backed by the captains at Nelson Golf Club, who have named the Meningitis Trust as their chosen charity to support throughout the year. The golf club will be the venue for a dinner dance and charity auction on Saturday, October 18th.
William, a pupil at Christ Church Primary School, Colne, suffered effects similar to those of a stroke victim after part of his brain died when he became ill in April last year. He lost movement in his right side and was blind, but he has since astounded doctors, carers and his family with his progress.
Added Mrs Baldwin: "He still has full-time support workers while at school and sees an occupational therapist every week, but is doing absolutely marvellous. He is walking unaided, although he's still a bit unstable."
Tickets for the dinner dance, at 7 p.m., are £15, from which £1 will go straight into the evening's charity pot. For tickets, ring Mrs Baldwin on 867034, or call into Nelson Golf Club. She would also like to hear from anyone able to support by offering auction items.
