A WOMAN who diverted a shop worker's attention and switched a £1,500 ring for a fake is being sought by police.

The woman and a male accomplice made off with the 18ct white gold ring with a ½ct diamond from Boundary Mill, Colne.

Sgt John Fryer, of Colne police, said: "The couple went in posing as customers and asked to try on some rings, which were kept in a glass cabinet.

"They managed to distract the person behind the counter, who, unfortunately didn't realise one of the rings had been switched for a cheap one in the same size."

The pair were captured on CCTV on their way out of the store.

The woman was white, about 5ft 6in., of plump build with black, shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a yellow coat, black leggings and white boots, and was carrying a flowery bag.

Her accomplice was white, about 5ft 10in. and wearing a black coat.

Anyone with information should contact PC Dave Fisher on 425001 or call Crimestoppers free and in confidence on 0800 555111.
