A MEETING was being called last night to discuss the future of Trawden Show after organisers were forced to cancel it at the weekend.
Saturday's showers meant the village's recreation ground was unfit to hold the number of vehicles and visitors anticipated.

Despite a number of attractions still going ahead on Sunday, organisers estimate it made a loss of more than £10,000 and have doubts whether they can finance next year's show.

Mr Bob Glozier, vice-chairman, said the ground had already been damaged by vehicles coming to set up the show when the decision was made to cancel at 9 p.m. on Saturday.

A number of people turned up for the dog show, a drystone walling competition and entertainment in the president's marquee.

Although some money was made, Mr Glozier estimated £12,000-£15,000 had been spent on equipment for the show, including portable toilets and marquees.

He said: "Last year, we made a loss of £10,000 and I'd say it's the same this year if not more. Fortunately, we have some money in the bank, but we will need to make an urgent appeal for sponsorship if we are going to hold a show next year.

"We already receive sponsorship and are very grateful to have such good support, but we can't carry on making a loss every year."
