A GRANDAD and a four-year-old girl from Colne have been killed in a horrific road collision in the Scottish Highlands.
Paul Victor Anderson (48) and Samantha Jane Carr, of Langroyd Road, suffered fatal injuries in the four-vehicle smash around 9-25 a.m. on Saturday. They were travelling in an Hyundai 4x4 which was towing a caravn which was in collision with a car and two vans.

The family were in Scotland for the funeral of his niece, 27-year-old Vicky Pickering, a former Royal Navy Wren, who had been killed in a car accident on the M6 near Bilsborrow earlier this month

A female adult was also said to be travelling in the car on the A9 Perth to Inverness Road, as well as another female child. They were taken to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, and their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Reports say the child was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital, where he later died. The road, said to be one of Scotland's busiest and an accident trouble spot, was closed for several hours and diversions were put in place. It has been reported elsewhere that none of the victims were from the Highlands, but had been travelling from England.

Chief Insp. Donald Henderson said: "This was a serious and tragic incident. My thanks to the officers and emergency services personnel who attended such a difficult scene. We would like to offer our condolences to the families concerned."
