Help for Heroes fund-raiser in memory of tragic soldier Beck
FAMILY and friends of a Colne soldier killed in a road accident have raised £4,000 in his memory.
Pte Craig Warren, known as Beck, of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment, was knocked down and killed on a motorway in Cyprus, where he had been stationed.
The accident happened a day before he was due to return home on December 3rd, 2005. His stepfather, Alan, organised a car treasure hunt and race night at the North Valley pub as part of a campaign to raise money for Selly Oaks Hospital, which looks after injured soldiers.
The event raised more than £1,000, and the amount has been added to the money raised from a concert at the Muni, Colne, to mark Craig's 21st birthday, and two sponsored fancy dress pub crawls around town. Mr Beck thanked staff at the North Valley pub for their help, and regulars Robin and Shelia who set up the treasure hunt.
Mr Beck, Craig's mum, Cath, and his brother, Sean, have already handed over money from the previous events to the hospital, as part of the "Help for Heroes" campaign.
