AN 80-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries when she was involved in an accident with a car by the cricket ground in Keighley Road, Colne.
Mrs Mary Clapham, from Barnoldswick, had visited a relative at the Grange Nursing Home on Tuesday afternoon and was crossing the road to catch a bus home when she was in collision with a car driven by a Trawden woman.
She was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital and concerns were initially that she was critically ill. However, by the next day she was sitting up in bed, although she had a jaw fracture.
Sgt Gareth Hill, of the Road Policing Unit at Colne, said: "We did have fears over her condition at first, but she has made a good recovery, although she was still in hospital on Wednesday for observations."
Police closed the road for more than two hours while an accident investigation officer looked into the cause of the accident.

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with minor injuries following a crash with a car in Skipton Road, Trawden, shortly after 6 p.m on Tuesday.
