DESPITE heavy rain, the first "Hoedown in the Park" in Laneshaw Bridge was a huge success.
The village school choir opened Saturday's event on Laneshaw Bridge playing fields, along with Nick Dow's Band and line dancers. Other attractions included a hog roast, bar, barbecue and tea and cakes. Revellers donned cowboy-style outfits.

Paul White, chairman of Laneshaw Bridge Events Committee, which organised the party, said: "The event was a huge success and we would like to thank the chapel, school and all the volunteers who gave their time to run the event, as well as Bannisters Corn Mill, which supplied a wagon, and the Black Lane Ends who supplied a bar."

Money raised, including funds from Laneshaw Bridge Grand Draw, will be put back into village events. Coming up next will be the return of "T'Brig Expo" and an exhibition of Laneshaw Bridge past and present in September.
