AN AREA of waste land near a Colne estate is being lined up for improvements, which may include installing children's play equipment.
Councillors have selected a design for the "gateway" to Knotts Drive, which would see £60,000 spent on improving its attractiveness and landscape.

Pendle Council is in the process of gaining ownership of the land and already has £35,000 put aside to spend on play equipment.

At a meeting of Colne and District Committee, Coun. Phillip Boyle said: "These are very ambitious plans and splendid progress has been made for an area that has needed some attention for quite some time."

Debbie Taylor, of the council's parks and recreation department, said in her report: "The open space in its current state lends itself to anti-social behaviour as it is hidden by large shrubs. By implementing the environmental improvement works and designing out crime, it is anticipated there could be a possible reduction in misuse and anti-social behaviour."
