COUNCILLORS are being advised by planning officers to approve plans to turn an empty shop in Colne into a hot-food takeaway – but not without a fight from Colne town councillors and some residents who are planning to voice their opposition.
The application is for the former Foto-Fast shop in Market Street.

The application, to be heard at a meeting of Pendle Council's Colne and District Committee, is seen to accord with the planning policy. Its proposed opening hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday to Sunday, which is seen to be acceptable in a town centre location. Car parking and servicing provision are also seen to be acceptable, with no objections made by Lancashire County Council.

The applicant, Mr N. Ahmed, has also included the installation of a fire door and extraction flue vent in his proposals to control any emissions and odours.

In a report to councillors, case officer Kathryn Hughes, says: "There is a positive presumption in favour of approving the development and there are no material reasons to object to the application."
