THREE elderly people were rescued from their Colne homes by fire-fighters after what is believed to have been an arson attack.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at 3-24 a.m. today (Saturday), which resulted in the three being taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment. They had suffered the effects of smoke.

The fire is thought to have started in a recycling bin at the front of the flats in Peel Gardens, Colne. Fire crews from Colne and Nelson were called in and, after tackling the blaze which was blocking the exits, fire-fighters in breathing apparatus went in and led the three to safety from two separate flats. They were then taken to hospital by ambulance, but one is believed to have later been released.

Watch Manager Richard Taylor, of Colne Fire Station, said: "We could have seen something a lot more serious."

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 425001, or Crimestoppers, free and in confidence, on 088 555 111.
