A WEBSITE is advertising Laneshaw Bridge public toilets as a meeting place for gay men to perform sex acts.
As a result, parish councillors are considering closing the toilets, fearing residents' safety is being compromised.

The councillors are constantly being made aware of activity at the toilets and "unpleasant" graffiti on walls inside.

Coun. Gillian Hacking said: "It's very unpleasant what's been written in there and my concern is for the safety of people in the village and the youngsters playing out around there. The toilets are featuring on undesirable websites and police say they can't get rid of it because of the links between the sites."

Previously, councillors had wanted to keep the toilets open for walkers and lorry drivers. Coun. Hacking added: "Things have moved on since then and I think the prime concern should be the safety of villagers."

One resident suggested: "Close it down and put a car park there."

The issue is up for discussion at the parish council's meeting in April.
