A NEW pastor has been welcomed into Colne’s Assemblies of God church.

The Rev. Pauline Street (41) has moved to the town from Barnsley to take on the role at New Life Christian Centre, in West Street.

She takes over from Rev. Tony Haworth who stepped down from the role approximately two years ago.

As well as studying Christian Leadership at Mattersey Hall Bible College for three years, Miss Street also spent five years as a youth and community worker in Market Drayton, Shropshire.

She hopes to develop links with the community and seeing the church grow regardless of its size.

She was installed by former pastor at Clitheroe Community Church, the Rev. Brian Clark, and his wife Myrtle.

Miss Street, who is now living in Kelbrook, said: “It was really good. I got quite emotional, as everybody was really welcoming, not only to me, but to my friends and family as well.

“Somebody had informed me about this post, and I came to visit, came and preached, had an interview and loved it.

“I felt like it was the place God wanted me to be at. It feels like home already!”

The Assemblies of God is a movement of churches who believe that Jesus is still working in His church through the power of His Spirit to change people’s lives for the better.

Miss Street added: “We believe Jesus told us to love God and people.

“I want this church to be a welcoming and secure place for anyone who wants to come and visit.

“We want to be outward, reach out into the community, and make contact with schools and other agencies.”

A service is held at the New Life Christian Centre every Sunday at 11am.

Miss Street said an Alpha Course will be arranged for after Easter, to help residents explore Christianity and the basic truths of the Bible.
