The Pendle women from La Dolce Vita deli cooked outdoors Italian style for volunteers at the Hodge House community allotment in Nelson.
The end of season al fresco cook-out included ingredients fresh from the allotment for steaming Italian soups cooked outside on a pioneer stove.
And there’ll be warm blackberry and apple sauce and summer fruit cordials for volunteers to try along with La Dolce Vita’s popular home-made Italian cakes and organic artisan bread.
“It’s a thanksgiving to the volunteers who’ve worked hard, sowing and growing all summer and autumn,” said Joanne Dootson, who runs the Live Well, Eat Well allotment for Pendle Leisure Trust.
Sarah Lee from Colne runs the new deli business alongside Sara Mumby from Nelson.
Sarah said: “Our ethos at La Dolce Vita is to enjoy the good life, cooking seasonal local food using Italian recipes.
“It’s the perfect combination of ingredients and Italian style!”
“The community allotment has been helping us by supplying fresh basil and other herbs for our business, grown by Joanne and the volunteers,” said Sara Mumby.
Sarah and Sara have been testing out their home-made Italian cakes and other Italian products on a deli stall at local markets over the summer. This month they were successful in getting a business start up grant from Pendle Council and they’re hoping to open a shop in Colne soon.
