JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Barlick Barons on their bikes
Members of Barlick Barons Football Club on the fundraising bike ride
Members of Barlick Barons Junior Football Club have swopped balls for bikes as they completed a 52-mile cycle ride.
Setting off from Leeds to Barnoldswick along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath, Shaun Crow, Rob Baker, Nigel Hodge and Chris Farrell finished the ride in four hours 15 minutes in glorious sunshine but into a difficult and strong headwind all the way.
A combination of bananas and brew stops kept the four intrepid cyclists going but the group had to take a detour via Skipton, instead finishing in Thornton-in-Craven, as part of the towpath was not passable.
The club also held a charity fundraiser on Saturday night at the Massala Rooms in Foulridge and funds raised there combined with the bike ride take the total amount to well over £1,000.
Tracey Harding, Registration Secretary at Barlick Barons, said: “It was really good and well attended. We raised £550 on the night and 73 people came along. Everybody has been brilliant and the Massala Rooms were fantastic.”
