FLASHBACK: King Henry VIII and all his six wives pay a visit to West Street Community Primary School, in Colne (S)

IT was a flash from the past at one Colne primary school when King Henry VIII and all his six wives appeared without any warning.

The unexpected visitors greeted pupils and staff at West Street Community Primary School following the festive break, and were introduced by King Henry’s advisor.

Everybody was on their best behaviour – especially after finding out about King Henry’s liking for saying “off with their head!”

The wives introduced themselves to the children, and before the guests left to travel back in time each class was handed a special scroll, sealed with wax, and tied with a ribbon.

When opened, they revealed a task for each class to work on over the course of the next half term.

Headteacher Sarah Burtoft said: “We like to start each topic off with something unusual, and what better way to start the Tudor period than a visit from the King.

The children were instantly enthused and had learned a lot even by the end of the first day – if only how to keep their heads.”
