OPENING ITS DOORS: Headteacher Eileen Bleasdale and pupils are ready to welcome local people and prospective parents to an open day at Laneshaw Bridge Primary School (S)

AN “outstanding” primary school in Laneshaw Bridge is throwing open the doors of its brand new building.

Laneshaw Bridge Primary School, which is consistently given the top rating by school inspectors, is hosting an open day at its Emmott Lane premises on Thursday at 10am.

Local people and prospective parents are invited to attend the event, after the ageing school recently benefitted from a government capital programme.

The school now boasts purpose built accommodation, meaning that it has been able to expand, and rise from a capacity of 154 to 210.

Headteacher Eileen Bleasdale said: “We’d love prospective parents to come and see for themselves what we have to offer.

“Our academic record speaks for itself but what it can’t convey is what a happy, busy place our school is.

“This is like a dream come true for us.

“Though we have many fond memories of life in our old school building, it was just too small, too dark, we had no proper hall, no kitchen, not enough toilets — the list went on and on.

“The children have watched their new school rise from the ground with a mixture of excitement and wonder. And now we’re actually in it, we can’t believe we’re here to stay.

“It has made the most incredible difference to what we can do, and will continue to do so for years to come.”

The single-storey school is built with a natural “green” roof, and has modern facilities with plenty of outside play space for the children.

An official opening event for the school is planned for next year.
