Loud music made Barrowford neighbours’ lives a misery

A 20-YEAR-OLD Barrowford man has been given a two-year Anti-Social Behaviour Order on conviction (CRASBO) and ordered to pay a total of £265 for playing music so loud his neighbours’ lives were made a misery.

Thomas Wadsworth, of Cottesloe Place, pleaded guilty at Reedley Magistrates’ Court to failing to comply with a Noise Abatement Notice served on him in January, 2011.

The court heard how Wadsworth breached his notice five times in November and December by playing music so loud his neighbours couldn’t sleep, their children were woken and they couldn’t hear their televisions.

This is the second time he has been summoned to court for breaching the notice – he appeared in Reedley Magistrates’ Court in July, 2011 for four similar offences.

Despite his solicitor claiming Wadsworth has now moved out of the area to student accommodation in Preston, the court imposed a CRASBO because of his total disregard for the court and other people.

The CRASBO bans Wadsworth from causing a nuisance to neighbouring properties anywhere in England and Wales by playing music at an excessive volume.

Coun. James Starkie, who looks after Environmental Health in Pendle, said: “It is totally unacceptable for people to be so disturbed by their neighbours that they can’t sleep, their children are woken and they can’t hear their television.

“If Mr Wadsworth fails to stick to the conditions of the CRASBO, it could mean up to five years in prison.

“I hope this serves as a warning to him and others that the council will not tolerate people who persist in making their neighbours’ lives a misery.”

Pauline Foley, Pendle Council’s Public Health Manager, who is responsible for noise nuisance, added: “Most people in Pendle are considerate to their neighbours, but unfortunately a small minority behave in an anti-social way.

“We are here to help, so if you are affected by noisy neighbours and want to get in touch, phone 661199.”
