THE Queen of Shops - TV star Mary Portas - made her first visit to Nelson on Tuesday after giving the town centre a £100,000 boost award. And she said she was impressed with the town.

She is coming up with all sorts of ideas to help boost high streets in towns, and is helping to create thoughts to make the heart of Nelson more of a success after shopping declined in decades.

She walked round the centre and met the Nelson Town Team to discuss things, and was given a warm welcome. In Friday’s Leader Times Newspapers there will be a big report on her visit.
