Police helicopter search after Colne ‘shotgun’ incident

editorial image

AFTER reports of people shooting shotguns on land next to the old railway near Alkincoats Road in Colne, a police team including firearms officers and a helicopter made a search of the area.

Around 4-30pm on Sunday, members of the public contacted the police reporting concern that people were firing guns by the disused railway line to Skipton.

Searches were made around Barrowford Road, Heirs House Lane, Alkincoats Park and Red Lane. The police helicopter covered the land between.

But after making the search, the officers spoke to the people involved, and a police spokesman said: “There was nothing illegal taking place. It was lawful.”

A similar incident by the same stretch of disused railway in Foulridge happened a few months ago.
