Proud Trawden mum’s Mount Fuji challenge
Leila Neve and Mark Anderson who are all set to climb Mount Fuji in aid of the Stroke Association and Child Brain Injury Trust.
SHE would move mountains for her little girl.
And to prove it Trawden’s Leila Neve (32) and her friend Mark Anderson (39) are doing the next best thing by climbing Japan’s Mount Fuji in July.
The pair are hopeful that the 3,776m trek will raise awareness and money for The Stroke Association and the Child Brain Injury Trust, after Leila’s daughter Charlotte (8) suffered a rare brain haemorrhage and a series of strokes last year.
Mark, an IT contractor and husband to Leila’s best friend Lindsay, has known Charlotte all her life. His daughter, Poppy (7) is Charlotte’s best friend.
Leila, who is also mum to Megan (12),said: “Hopefully it will have a big impact, and will be a challenge.
“And without sounding corny, it is the whole ‘moving mountains’ thing.
“I am really excited. This year I am keeping busy, and looking ahead.
“Charlotte’s difficulties are caused by scarring and damage to the brain, and I want to raise awareness of that.
“It can be caused just from falling off a bike and getting mild concussion. Charlotte’s was an extreme circumstance but it is really common.”
And Mark added: “I have always wanted to go. I am really excited.
“We just want to raise as much awareness of what’s been going on.
“It is going well so far.”
Charlotte, a pupil at West Street Community Primary School, is said to be recovering well.
She has recently been told she will be moving up a group in her “letters and sounds” class, and has even asked if she can be given spellings to take home with her.
Leila added: “Charlotte is doing really well at the minute.
“After Christmas, she went up a gear.”
Childhood stroke affects around five out of every 100,000 children a year in the UK. For more information visit www.stroke.org.uk.
