Mindless vandals have caused costly damage to windows at Holy Trinity Church in Barnoldswick.

Windows have been smashed at the rear of the town centre church on Skipton Road in the last two weeks with damage estimated at over £200.

However, on top of additional cost to an already tight budget at the moment, the windows need to be repaired by an approved ecclesiastical fitter and church wardens have expressed their frustration at the damage.

Mark Williams, one of the church wardens at Holy Trinity, said trouble experienced a couple of years ago had died down but feared it “was rearing its ugly head again”.

He has called on the local community to help eradicate it and nip it in the bud.

Mr Williams said: “They do not realise that this adds to the running costs of the church which then has an effect on the fees that the church has to require for things such as funerals, weddings and christenings.

“The church is there for the people of Barnoldswick as a community and this act of vandalism affects them as well as the congregation that attend it.

“It looks very bad to have windows either boarded up or broken panes especially if your family are having a wedding or a funeral in the church.

“We are in liason with the local police as to try and prevent further damage, but we would like residents living close to the church to report any gatherings of youths or people acting suspicious to the police to help us prevent this continuing.”
