LETTER: Burnley’s bursting with sporting heros
WE have always been mad on sport here in Burnley and the Clarets’ exploits in recent years have raised our town’s profile all over the world.
For such a sports-mad area it could be argued we have perhaps under-achieved in terms of home-grown talent, but that is all changing now.
The emergence of Ashes hero Jimmy Anderson has quickly been followed by Burnley’s very own Jay Rogriguez making his international debut for the England U-21 football team against Italy this week.
As our councils and sports authorities ponder just how and where to make budget cuts, let’s hope we do not lose any more of the excellent sporting facilities that have contributed to the development of local talent such as Jimmy and Jay.
And let’s ensure the sports facilities at the new super schools are utilised as much as possible and keep the conveyor belt rolling along.
J. MANN, BURNLEY
