Please contact me via email: rainlee@mick.orangehome.co.uk Michael Lee | | | | My family originates from Colne, Foulridge area and I would love any extra information if any one can help me. My father Ronald Brooks was born in Colne in 1933. His father and mother Sydney Brooks (born 1909) and Annie (formally Robinson) came from Colne area also as did Sydney's father Edwin (b1876) and his wife Sarah (formally Heap, born 1878). I am also led to believe that my father Ronald married his first wife (not my mother) some time between 1953-63. I do not have a name for his first wife and I am led to believe that they also had children and I would love any help with finding any of my half brothers or sisters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The owner of the papers will be happy to provide access to these for any members of that family. The material includes a Petty family tree covering the period 1719 to the 1850s, with family members variously at Barnoldswick, Salterforth and Colne. There is a very interesting journal covering the emigration of one Petty family to New Zealand. The author is believed to be Watson Petty, who travelled with his wife, Mary, and daughter, Daisy, from Plymouth to Auckland between October 6th, 1880, and January, 1881. Watson Petty was born in Colne in 1836, his birth being registered at the Independent Chapel. The vessel was the ill-fated SS Tararua, a sail/steam ship which was lost off New Zealand, with great loss of life, on her return journey. There are many old photos of family members, plus a lot of information about the Wilkinson family of Colne, who are evidently related. Should anyone be interested in these papers, I will be happy to put them in touch with their owner. PETER CATTERALL Tel. 863969 | | | | Any 'Barmy Mick' tales? I AM trying to find out more information about my grandfather, the one and only "Barmy Mick". It has been said, over the years, that I get my head for business from him and as I embark on another venture, yet again he came to mind. All I know is that he had a stall on Nelson Market and a couple of tales my mum has told me. I would be very interested to hear other people's memories of him.
